MISSION: 
The North Texas Food Bank (NTFB) seeks to eliminate Hunger by distributing food and grocery products through a network of nonprofit organizations while providing education and increasing community awareness on issues of Hunger.

NEED:

  • In the 13 North Texas counties served by NTFB, 692,028 individuals live below the federal poverty level. 1
  • Texas leads the nation with the highest percentage of families who are “food insecure.” 2
  • NTFB served an estimated 262,000 individuals in 2005, compared to 197,674 in 2001. 3

IMPACT:
The NTFB is a nonprofit center for food distribution that procures donated surplus food and transfers it in usable quantities to over 678 feeding and education programs in 13 North Texas counties.  These programs include food pantries, soup kitchens and shelters, after-school programs, senior citizen centers and other social service centers.

Since founded in 1982, 330 million pounds of food have been distributed across NTFB’s 13-county service area: Dallas, Denton, Collin, Fannin, Rockwall, Hunt, Grayson, Kaufman, Ellis, Navarro, Lamar, Delta and Hopkins counties.

  • 37 million pounds of food were distributed.
  • Each month, agency pantries distributed food to more than 57,000 families, and on-site meal programs served 503,000 meals/snacks.
  • 2,876 adults and youth received free nutrition education classes.
  • Consistently ranked in the Top 10 nonprofit organizations in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. 4
  • Second largest America’s Second Harvest food bank in Texas based on pounds distributed, and 8th in the entire network. 5
  • Each $1 donated = five meals (or $10 of distributed food).
  • $.97 out of each $1 helps feed hungry North Texas Families.
