Food Bank Food Stamp Challenge

Why Take the North Texas Food Bank Food Stamp Challenge?

Is the current Food Stamp benefit enough for a family to provide healthy food so that children can succeed in school?  Is it enough to provide a working parent with enough energy to succeed at a job and the right nutrients to stay healthy?

Then keep in mind that for 90% of the clients we serve, their Food Stamps last for only three weeks or less, leaving them to rely on emergency food assistance for the remainder of the month, or make poor nutrition choices.

Then consider the stated objective of the Food Stamp Program, to “permit low-income households to obtain a more nutritious diet through normal channels of trade increasing food purchasing power for all eligible households who apply for participation.”

When you take the Challenge, you gain personal experience that will help you share with others, including your elected officials in Washington D.C., how this objective is not being met through the current Food Stamp benefit amount.

You can share these experiences one-on-one, through personal Blogs, or by journaling with us.  Make sure you sign-up for Food for Thought, our new e-mail advocacy alert.  It will help you share your personal experience with your United States Senators and House Members as they begin the final steps in shaping the future for the Food Stamp Program for the next five years.
